“It's so important to me that we emphasize the connection we have with the courts, with probation and even with the defense bar. We're working on creating stability in an unstable world, so we can have a flourishing community,” Barker said. “It has to start not just with our office, we have to work together to make sure that we're identifying these populations that need our help.”

“Recovery Court is an alternative to incarceration that improves public safety at a much lower cost to taxpayers,” Barker said. “Many individuals in the criminal justice system are living with serious addictions. In the absence of other crimes, these cases should be addressed through treatment and alternatives to prison programs. Recovery Court provides a way for these individuals to take accountability while helping them find a way back to the community. This program not only saves money; it saves lives.”
